Working Closely With Our Neighbors

We Love Helping Our Community Thrive

One of the founding principals of Inhabitect is to ensure we are activity working, collaborating and fostering lasting relationships within our community and throughout the communities of our customers. Our work contributes to rich environmental, economic, and social benefits across both the public and private realms of the built environment. We are dedicate to sharing our abilities, our niche expertise, and know-how with our neighbors.

One project that showcases our approach to building community resilience is the Kids Creek Rehabilitation Project, where Inhabitect worked closely with numerous non-profits, municipal organizations, and commercial retail clientele to rehabilitate an ecosystem and resource. This project is focused on improving the Kids Creek watershed, a major tributary to the Boardman River, which flows directly into West Grand Traverse Bay.

There are many other opportunities to implement ecological resiliency in Northern Michigan; we are thrilled to be doing our part in ensuring this is available for generations to come. We like to “jump in” when we are able and would be thrilled to learn more about any upcoming projects you might be working on.

Featured Projects

Mt. Holiday

Mt. Holiday is a community non-profit recreation area located in Traverse City. Their mission is to foster community connection through accessible and affordable outdoor recreation throughout all four seasons. With the help of Inhabitect, Traverse City Tourism, and Rotary Charities, Mt. Holiday hosted a community visioning event to help forge the way forward for the Mountain Biking Community. Participants representing local biking clubs, shops, and governments were encouraged to voice their opinions. Inhabitect helped conceptualize the data and create an action plan/timeline to make Mt. Holiday the perfect spot for Northern Michigan’s biking enthusiasts. Download the data packet for more information on the event and our efforts.

Watershed Center

Over the years, we have gotten the opportunity to work with the Watershed Center on six vital projects along Kids Creek. The latest project we worked on was the Kids Creek Rehabilitation Project, where Inhabitect worked closely with numerous non-profits, municipal organizations, and commercial retail clientele to create a good environment for wildlife while preventing stormwater from the Meijer property from getting into the creek.

SEEDS

SEEDS is a nonprofit organization in Traverse City that implements local solutions to global issues at the intersection of ecology, education, and design. They focus on place-based activities that regenerate habitat, prevent carbon emissions, develop talent pipelines for green industries, and invest in the next generations. We have hired them to work with us on many of our projects, as we share a similar mission to create green solutions in Northern Michigan.,

Bay Mills Indian Community

Located on Tribal Lands in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, this multi-phased project within the Bay Mills Indian Community integrates Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) to manage runoff, enhance the local environment, and honor cultural and ecological values. Inhabitect worked closely with Tribal leaders to design, plan, and install a series of rain gardens filled with native plants. These systems naturally manage stormwater, reducing runoff and improving water quality while incorporating vegetation chosen for its cultural significance to the Bay Mills Indian Community—serving as food, in ceremonies, and as medicine.
