Inhabitect is seeking an experienced Director of Operations to help us build a greener future by strengthening the systems and processes that support our mission. Our team is known for designing, building, and growing green roofs, landscapes, and other forms of living architecture to support a healthier planet. Serving commercial, residential, and institutional clients across Michigan and beyond, we’re looking for someone who shares our love for the natural world and brings strong leadership, strategic thinking, and organizational expertise to our growing team.

Job Duties
Primary Responsibility: Oversee and optimize day-to-day business operations, ensuring efficiency, alignment across teams, and strong financial and administrative management.

– Lead daily office operations, internal communications, and scheduling

– Manage team meetings, calendars, and project coordination systems

– Oversee payroll processing, benefits reporting, and vendor payments

– Generate and manage client invoicing and receivables

– Support job costing, budgeting, and operational planning

– Serve as point of contact for cross-functional team coordination

– Maintain documentation, SOPs, and shared digital resources

– Assist with fleet and equipment management

– Collaborate with leadership on strategic initiatives and growth planning

– Support HR functions including onboarding, morale, and team culture

– Attend and contribute to weekly cash flow and leadership meetings

– Support efforts to track sales efforts across both the design and installation sides of the business

– Work to predict and track revenue projections and performance metrics

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a candidate who lives in or near Traverse City and is excited to bring leadership and operational insight to a company grounded in sustainability. The ideal candidate will have:

– 5+ years of experience in operations, project management, or a related leadership role

– Degrees or Certificates in related fields are a big plus but not required

– Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Dropbox, and LMN are desired

– Excellent communication, organization, and team-building skills

– Strong financial and sales acumen and an understanding of service-based business operations

– A passion for sustainability, conservation, and environmentally conscious practices

Bonus: Experience in the construction, landscape, or design-build industry is highly valued.

Compensation

Assistant Site Supervisors have the ability to manage and work on projects from start to finish. Their roles are critical to the success of the company. They must follow policy, protocol and help Site Supervisors and Operations Managers get projects completed on time, on budget, meeting both client and company expectations. The Assistant Site Supervisor must be organized, have a grasp on technology, must welcome challenges, be willing to learn, must show a drive to succeed, and be a self-starter.

They will have a sense of pride in the quality of their work, understand that the effectiveness and profitability is key to their job. They must always set a good example and work to ensure those around them do the same. The Assistant Site Supervisor, is sometimes “the face” of Inhabitect and they must always present themselves as professional and carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.

They will be overseeing and co-managing Field Associates/Laborers. When management of a project or jobsite is delegated to the Assistant Site Supervisor, they are expected to come prepared, to all meetings and job start-ups, 100% of the time and utilize the technologies (Project Management software, iPads, Iphone, etc) that are at their disposal to plan, document and execute their jobs. The ideal candidate is someone who has an entrepreneurial spirit and is driven to help Inhabitect continue to innovate and excel at all things green infrastructure, ecological landscaping and community minded design.

This person will have:

–     3+ years of experience with residential and/or commercial landscape professions or similar

–     Must have experience with some level of management 

–     Must have and/or be willing to obtain CDL drivers license 

–     Must be a motivated self-starter and have a desire to learn and grow 

–     Must be highly organized

–     Must have good communication skills

–     Clean and professional appearance and demeanor is vital. Set example for crew. 

–     Must be personally accountable for their actions, decisions and choices 

–     Hands on experience with construction or landscaping is a MUST

–     Desire to grow both personally and professionally

–     Be comfortable with technology requirements of the job (computers, smart phones, tablets, etc) 

Compensation:

Very competitive wage plus opportunity for bonuses

Signing bonus depending on experience

Position is Full-time during the season with flexibility in off-season

Will qualify for PTO and paid holidays

Our Field Associates are entry level laborers that work outside, assisting to design, build and grow all sorts of landscape projects. Their role is a hybrid of a landscaper, a carpenter and a roofer. They play a critical in the success of the company and they must follow policy, protocol and help to get projects completed on time, on budget, meeting both client and company expectations.

They must always set a good example and have a good attitude. They are expected to come to work prepared and have a sense of pride in the quality of their work.

This person will have:

– Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (CDL a plus)
– Strong work ethic and desire to grow their career
– Ability to repeatedly lift and carry, lift and move 50 lbs on a regular basis
– Ability to work well with others
– Experience work in one of the following: Landscaping, Roofing, Carpentry or Farming
– Experience with operating heavy equipment is desired
– Must be a motivated and have a desire to learn

Compensation:

Wage varies depending on experience – Current starting rate is very competitive

Signing bonus depending on experience
