How We Approach Land Use Planning
Inhabitect is innovative, technically minded, and has decades of combined experience with transforming the built environment. The very nature of our business demands efficiency and proficiency – we have you covered from start to finish. When we start the planning process, we look at your entire site, no matter the size, as well as the surrounding properties on the ground and from the air, via our drone. These extra steps during the inventory and analysis phase of the project are vital. We enjoy slowing down enough to get a sense of the space while using advanced technology and tools to assist us.
Inhabitect is different from your typical landscaper; we are not only native landscaping, green stormwater infrastructure or natural shoreline professionals, but we are also innovative in approaching land use planning and larger scale site design. Whether planning a multiple acre residential landscape, mapping a development or farmstead, designing a green stormwater infrastructure project, or assessing a sites vegetated cover – we deliver an accurate map and gain in-depth knowledge of the property. We review local land use ordinances, zoning and other regulatory requirements at the County and State levels, and we also explore opportunities and assess limiting factors on your site such as wetlands, property set backs, or overhead utility lines.
Getting a Bird's Eye View

By combining GIS and Drone surveys, Inhabitect is able to ensure accuracy, define boundaries, verify documentation, and develop cost-effective land use planning while giving clients timely updates throughout the process.
Spotlight Projects

Tap Root Farmstead
Inhabitect provided land use consulting, site planning, and ecological landscape design for Taproot Farmstead, a future public-use space in Elmwood Township, assisting the owners in securing a special land use permit. By guiding the planning and permitting process, we ensured their vision aligned with local regulations. With the permit approved, the owners will implement the project using our design framework, showcasing Inhabitect’s expertise in turning ideas into actionable plans.

Lee Point Residence
Inhabitect provided site planning, land use consulting, and landscape design for this lakeside Suttons Bay property. Facing erosion challenges on a bluff, our team used drone technology for a dune monitoring study, 3D modeling, and vegetation analysis to guide stabilization efforts and protect the shoreline.

Smith Lake Residence
For this secluded 40-acre property on Smith Lake, we used GIS technology and drone imagery to assess water movement, map trails, and guide sustainable development. Our expertise helped balance preservation with thoughtful land use, ensuring a future that respects the natural landscape.
