Project Description

Located on Lime Lake in Maple City, MI, just minutes from Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, this natural shoreline restoration project reflects Inhabitect’s comprehensive design-build approach. Completed in the summer of 2023, this project transformed the property into a more functional lakeside retreat.

Our work began with a bioengineered shoreline, designed to combat erosion and loss of shoreline property, while integrating harmoniously into the lake’s natural environment. An 8-foot-wide vegetated buffer strip, planted with 100% native species, replaced a traditional lawn along the shoreline, improving the site’s biodiversity, aesthetics, and more effectively filtering runoff. Natural stone steppers were installed in two locations to provide access to the lake while also preserving the integrity of the improved shoreline.

In addition to the shoreline restoration, the project included the creation of a spacious flagstone patio with a custom fire pit, offering a welcoming space for gatherings and relaxation. A pathway further enhances functionality, connecting key areas of the property.

Inhabitect’s involvement didn’t end with installation; we signed a maintenance contract with the homeowner and continue to provide ongoing care to ensure the long-term success of this project. This Lime Lake Residence project exemplifies our commitment to blending ecological restoration with functional design, creating spaces and places that are as beautiful as they are sustainable.
